NOVALAC ALLERGY UPDATE
September 2022
In recent months, global supply chains have come under strain from the impact of COVID-19 and geopolitical events such as the conflict zones in Europe. With the higher-than-average demand, stock levels of Novalac Allergy Infant Formula continue to be depleted at an accelerated pace. We sympathise with Australian families affected by these shortages. Unfortunately, we expect that stores will continue to have limited availability of Novalac Allergy over the coming weeks, whilst we endeavour to do our best to resolve the situation.
While limited availability continues, we encourage parents and care givers to contact their local pharmacy to check stock levels prior to going in-store and, if the product cannot be found in-store, try online options : chemistwarehouse.com.au or priceline.com.au.
Please consult your healthcare professional for medical advice and alternative options specific to the needs of your infant.
Novalac Allergy is an infant formula based on hydrolyzed rice protein for babies 0 – 12 months with a confirmed cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA), babies who are unable to tolerate cow’s milk formula, or lactose intolerant babies.
Please, always consult your healthcare professional should you have any concerns or for further advice specific to your infant.
Novalac is constantly looking to improve the formulations to better meet the needs of babies with common feeding problems. Novalac Allergy has made some improvements to ingredients, as a result the volume per scoop and Nutrition Information Panel (NIP) has been adjusted accordingly. Please be assured that the improved formulation continues to meet the nutrient requirements according to the FSANZ guidelines 2.9.5.

Novalac is constantly looking to improve the formulations to better meet the needs of babies with common feeding problems. Novalac Allergy NOW contains oil rich in ARA and DHA which is 100% derived from plant/vegetable source. Therefore, the allergen statement “contains fish” is no longer relevant and has been removed. Please always consult your healthcare professional should you have any concerns or for further advice specific to your infant.
Novalac is constantly looking to improve the formulations to better meet the needs of babies with common feeding problems. Novalac Allergy improved formulation continues to be suitable for diets which require the exclusion of cow’s milk protein and/or lactose. For this reason, cow’s milk protein is replaced with rice protein and lactose is replaced by maltodextrin (previously glucose syrup) as a preferred carbohydrate, to reduce the sources of lactose for lactose intolerant babies. Please always consult your healthcare professional should you have any concerns or for further advice specific to your infant.
Novalac Allergy improved formulation provides an accessible scoop located in the convenient easy lid. The colour and shape of the scoop has not changed. However, the volume of the scoop is now 4.3g (was 4.5g). This change is due to the improvements made to the formulation, ensuring each serve of Novalac Allergy meets the nutritional requirements of babies as set out in the FSANZ guidelines.
Whilst the scoop volume has changed slightly, the feeding guide has not changed. Continue to refer to the feeding guide when preparing infant formula. Please always consult your healthcare professional should you have any concerns or for further advice specific to your infant.
Novalac products are manufactured according to stringent hygiene standards which comply with Good Manufacturing Practices. The natural ingredients used in Novalac products are subject to environmental changes such as seasonality and locations or both. These environmental changes may result in slight variations to the organoleptic properties (colour, texture, density, smell, and taste) of the finished product whether powder or reconstituted. To ensure these variations do not affect the functional properties and safety of the finished product, they undergo extensive microbiological, chemical, and sensory testing prior to being released. These tests and results must comply with the Australian regulations (Standard 1.6.1, Schedule 27)
Whilst FSANZ permit nucleotides to be added to infant formula, it is not an essential nutrient and hence not required for developing (growing) babies. Novalac provides babies with complete nutrition, while assisting in the management of common feeding problems.
